Abstract
The aim of this study was to find out if the psychological stress of women,
caused by the complexity of their daily life between their family and their work,
had a relationship and an impact on their marital satisfaction.
The study was a survey of all female teachers at the University of August 20,
1955 Skikda who are married and mothers.
We relied on the descriptive approach in the study, applying 3 tools which
are: a scale to measure the level of psychological stress, a scale to measure
marital satisfaction, and a questionnaire for the sources of stress, and they were
built by ourselves, to process the data we used Statistical Software for the Social
Sciences (SPSS).
Through our study we attempted to answer a series of questions between the
main question and the sub-questions which are as follows:
- The main question: Is there a relationship between stress and marital
satisfaction in married university teacher?
- The sub-questions are:
1- What is the stress level of a married university teacher?
2- Is there a relationship between the level of stress and some sociodemographic factors (age, years of marriage, number of children and their age,
years of work) for married university teacher?
3- What are the sources of stress for a married university teacher?
4- What is the degree of marital satisfaction of a married university teacher?
5- Is there a relationship between marital satisfaction and some sociodemographic factors (age, years of marriage, number of children and their age,
years of work) for a married university teacher?
6- What is the relationship between the level of stress and the level of marital
satisfaction for a married university teacher?
7- Is There a Relationship Between Stress Symptoms (Physical, Psychological,
Behavioral, Cognitive) and Marital Satisfaction in a Married University
Teacher?
8- What are the sources of stress that can predict marital satisfaction in married
university teacher?
The study concluded with the following results:1- the married woman working as a university teacher has a high stress level, the
distribution of the research sample in the high stress category was 46.6%.
2- There is a relationship between the high level of stress and the age of the
sample, as stress increases as university teacher aged.
3- There is no relationship between the stress level and the number years of
marriage.
4- There is no relation between the number of children and the level of stress.
5- There is a relationship between the high level of stress and the first and the
third age of children, and there is no relationship between the other age groups.
6- There is a relationship between the high stress level and the number of years
of work.
7- Family, then professional sources of stress occupy the greatest place in terms
of effectiveness in the emergence of stress in the sample, followed by other
sources.
8- There is a very great convergence in the distribution of the levels of marital
satisfaction in the study sample, where the percentages were close, The level of
marital satisfaction appeared first with a percentage of 36.2%, then the low level
of marital satisfaction with a percentage of 34.4%, and the percentage of average
level of satisfaction was 29.4%.
9- There is no relationship between the low level of marital satisfaction and the
age of married the married university teacher.
10- There is a relation between the low level of marital satisfaction and the
number years of marriage, There is a relation between a low marital satisfaction
and the number of children, there is no relation between a low marital
satisfaction and the age of children. There is no relationship between low marital
satisfaction and the number of years the teacher has worked.
11- There is a positive relationship between the high level of stress and the low
level of marital satisfaction.
12- The correlation coefficients between stress symptoms and low marital
satisfaction are all statistically significant, except for behavioral symptoms,
where the correlation coefficient between cognitive symptoms and low marital
satisfaction appears to be the strongest, followed by the physical and emotional
symptoms coefficient. .
13- Family sources of stress are what most affect marital satisfaction.
