dc.description.abstract | Abstract For many years, shrimp shells have been neglected as a waste product. Today, however, this waste product plays a very important role in various fields, such as the plastics industry. Indeed, chitosan has become a substitute for fossil sources for its properties and characteristics. The work carried out in this thesis concerns the preparation of chitosan from shrimp shells harvested in the Skikda region. Different preliminary treatments (washing, drying, grinding) are applied to the starting products, followed by chemical extraction applications. We are primarily interested in the extraction of chitin from shrimp shells, and its conversion into chitosan, using different extraction methods. The products obtained were characterized by solubility tests. The chitosan obtained is fairly soluble at low acetic acid concentrations, but as the concentration increases, the solubility rate decreases. The determination of the degree of deacetylation (DDA) and the degree of acetylation (DA) was carried out using the infrared analysis technique. FRX analysis determined the composition of the biopolymer. This led to the conclusion that chitosan has a place in the plastics industry, as well as in the cosmetics and agri-food sectors. | |
