The primary aim of this module, Academic Writing, is to prepare learners for writing their dissertations through providing them with a practical guide supported with useful examples, exercises, and some suggested answers. The guide, then, proceeds, very briefly, to an overall reminder of key concepts in research methodology which are interrelated to academic writing. These concepts are explained in a simplified way, with some carefully-selected models to be analysed in relation with the learners’ specialty. The courses attempt to gradually train the students on some skills as critical thinking, analysing, logical planning, summarizing and paraphrasing, as well as acquainting them with principles of clarity, precision, objectivity, and academic honesty. The guide ends by covering the MLA as a referencing style in formal writing to meet the learners’ needs, in addition to suggesting some further readings such as source books and useful videos.
