Item Analysis of Pollution Control and Industrial Risks(University of 20 Août 1955 Skikda, 2026-01-20) BOURAS, Ibtissem; Rouainia, MouniraAtmospheric pollution originating from industrial activities is widely acknowledged as a major factor influencing air quality. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants, in particular, represent a significant source of emissions, releasing considerable amounts of pollutants such as Methane (CH₄), Sulfur dioxide (SO₂), Nitrogen monoxide (NO), Nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), and Carbon monoxide (CO). The Skikda LNG plant, the largest facility of its kind in Eastern Algeria, is a strategic contributor to the national economy, yet it also constitutes an important source of environmental risks. This thesis aims to assess the concentrations of CH₄, SO₂, NO, NO₂, and CO generated by the Skikda LNG plant (GLIK) across six different regions. Atmospheric pollutants were measured at each site and compared with the Algerian permissible limits. The findings reveal that the mean concentration of CH₄ at the plant reached 2775.88 µg/Nm³, far exceeding the national standard of 150 µg/Nm³. Similarly, the average CO concentration was 200.01 µg/Nm³, surpassing the permissible limit of 150 µg/Nm³. In contrast, the average levels of SO₂, NO, and NO₂ remained within acceptable ranges in all monitored sites and complied with Algerian regulatory standards. The thesis underscores that LNG plants represent a major source of atmospheric pollution, posing significant environmental risks and potential threats to public health. Therefore, it is essential for regulatory authorities to adopt stringent mitigation measures, including waste minimization, effective recycling strategies, and the deployment of continuous emission monitoring systems, in order to safeguard both the environment and human well-being from the adverse effects of industrial air pollution.
