    Civilization of the Target Language
(Faculté des lettres et des langues étrangères, 2026) Djihed, Messikh
This pedagogical resource, designed for second-year English students, combines advanced language instruction with an integrated study of British and Anglo American historical developments across ten lectures, progressing from the Age of Reason (Montesquieu, Locke, Voltaire) through the Industrial Revolution, Chartism, and Victorian cultural shifts (including Darwinism and Factory Acts) to British imperialism in India and key American developments (the American Revolution, Westward Expansion and Manifest Destiny, the Civil War, Reconstruction, and U.S. governmental structures); it advances linguistic competence via contextual immersion in cultural and historical narratives, uses varied methods—lecture exposition, targeted TD exercises, video-based listening, online debates for speaking, and digital presentations for production—and monitors learning with formative tools (prerequisite tests, Tests 01–07, Activities 01–34) plus summative exams (Exam 01–10), while offering examples and suggested answers to cultivate communicative competence in English.
